If there’s one thing I’ve learnt over the years, it’s never to underestimate the creativity of DigiPen students. Super Space ____, a physics-based arcade game where teamwork is vital for survival, is a recent example of such. Don’t be surprised if things end up more competitive than co-operative though! Unless they’ve somehow managed to hide from me, which is highly unlikely, there really aren’t many indie games with co-op, local or online. As such, the inclusion of this got me interested in Super Space ____, even though it’s not online enabled. This is likely going to be a deal breaker for some, because, you know, local multiplayer is extremely boring
Continue reading…

I’m not one for sitting down, closing my eyes and focusing on… absolutely nothing (aka. meditation). Steve on the other hand, genuinely wants to achieve a zen-like state. Too bad his attempts are constantly interrupted – too bad for those breaking his concentration that is, because this guy solves problems by getting physical! Like more than 2000 other games, Steve Can’t Zen was brought to life during the recent 26th Ludum Dare. The theme was ‘minimalism’ and tell me, what’s more minimalistic than meditating? Yeah, think about that for a second… alright, time’s up – back to the Steve! I swear, this guy has serious focusing (and aggression) issues.
Boy is Jack Haunt ever in a pickle. As if being a wandering spirit stuck between the two realms isn’t bad enough, he’s also managed to lose the deed to his haunting grounds in a poker game, forcing him to evacuate the premise. There’s one problem though: Rules say he has to locate his earthly remains prior to leaving, and as fate would have it, he’s forgotten where they are. Time is running out for Jack Haunt (again). How’s that for a spooky premise? At first glance, this may seem to be just another point & click adventure, but dig a little deeper and you’ll find a chilling tale of
Continue reading…

While we mostly get titles that favor gameplay, action and a wealth of content, over a deep moving story these days, my time spent as Beth in Labyrinthine Dreams provided the exact opposite! What, you won’t just take my word for it? Let’s explore her dreams, then. Life hasn’t been easy for Beth. In fact, it’s been downright awful as she’s had to face an onslaught of challenges and hardships, when all this poor girl wanted was to make her dream come true. Apparently the powers that be deems that’s she’s asking for too much, as it has decided to make what may very well be her final hours a
Continue reading…

I’m sure more are familiar with Bundle In A Box than its good friend The Indie Dev Grant, but in my opinion they deserve equal attention, as both do a lot for indie developers in their own way. As it turns out, Kyttaro Games are bringing both back for another round, so let’s go over the specifics. While the bundle helps boost sales of often overlooked/niche indie games, often including bonus content (soundtracks, concept art, wallpapers etc.), the grant is part of a competition as it were, to help one developer (be it an individual person or a full team) financially. Both are intertwined, as the amount of money in the
Continue reading…
